Team Preview:

Written by: Brandon McIntosh

Being the favorite heading into this season, St. Maries will look to win the 2A Central Idaho league and head into State to avenge their third-place loss last season. Coach Brian Chase (3rd year) seems loaded and poised to do just that.

It seems as if they are returning everyone with the production they have back. The truth is, they are missing and must fill the role of two solid leaders in Chase Truscott and Drake Lounsbury.

Returning the MVP and runner MVP in seniors Jake Sieler and Kiefer Gibson is a pretty good place to start. Combined, they averaged 25 points per game. They will be joined with a Second Team All-State and First Team All-Central Idaho player in Brady Martin (center, 9.5 ppg). If that isn’t enough, add Dakota Wilson (senior guard), a Second Team All-League player, as well as Bryant Asbury.

The Lumberjacks will be looking to set a fast tempo with their speed and force opponents to keep up. The keys will be to get out and run and find all the shooting threats in the lineup. The one thing holding them back is their free throw shooting percentage. Coach Chase puts that at the top of the list to improve.

This team has experience and that will be on display nightly as fans will be excited to watch all the havoc being caused by the swarming Lumberjack defense and the way they play together.

The goal for this season is to stay healthy and peak at the right time. The lumberjack will be the favorites in the Central Idaho league. Catch all the games as well as the Brawl for the ball against Kellogg. Watch St. Maries make some loud noise this season and post-season.
