Team Preview

A new look and a fresh start.
The Hagerman Pirates have both of those things going for them as they enter the new season following a 5-16 mark last year.
New Head Coach David Landrum takes over on the sidelines, looking to find ways to spark success for a unit that is one of the youngest in the state of Idaho.
Hagerman has no seniors this season, a rarity in high school basketball, meaning a junior class highlighted by guards Mackenzie Crist and Julianna Douville will be expected to handle much of the scoring load.
Crist will patrol the offense as the point guard, looking to help improve the overall shot selection and offensive production for a team that struggled to score last year.
Down-low, junior Samantha McCrorey will get plenty of touches. The junior will have her hands full in a conference with plenty of solid post players once again.
While the junior trio will be heavily relied upon, so will the underclassmen this season, as Hagerman is in a real youth movement.
“It is a young team [no seniors], but a hungry team with goals and they work hard,” said Landrum. “Being so young, we will need our sophomores and one or two freshmen to step up.”
The season will allow a great opportunity for the Pirates to give plenty of experience to players who will be around for a few more seasons, something that should in the long-run help improve the program.
In the meantime, getting past tough conference foes Oakley, Valley and Raft River this season will be a tall task, although the group is excited for the chance to compete.
The new campaign will begin for Hagerman on Nov. 13 at home against 1AD2 squad Castleford, a team that made it to the state tournament last season.
