Team Preview

Written by: Ryan Lee

After a fourth place finish at state, the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies return five players that played on last year’s squad. Heading into the 2015-16 season the Grizzlies will be without all five starters and all-state first team member, Maya Rodgers, who also led the team in scoring and rebounding. So it is safe to say that Rocky Mountain has holes to fill and questions needing answering heading into the 5A Southern Idaho Conference season.

The Grizzlies will be led again this season by nine-time state champion coach, Emery Roy. Coach Roy has a big challenge ahead of him trying to solidify a new starting rotation, but he is looking forward to the challenge and developing his young team.

“We have some great kids this year that want to learn, but I am looking forward to another great challenge this season with a new starting five and a lot of unknowns.”

Offense:
Returning this year from last year’s team will be a hand-full of seniors in Rachel Fielder, McKensie Profitt, Lacey Verity, Madi Hall, and Stephanie Hall. Since Rocky Mountain will have a new starting five Coach Roy says that each of these girls will play significant minutes this season. Offensively, the Grizzlies hope to improve their free-throw shooting from last season and using these seniors to solidify a firm rotation.

Defense:
An area Rocky Mountain struggled last year was in the half court. They hope to improve in that area with a hungry team eager to learn and hoping to prove its’ self by working hard and playing with toughness.

Wrap-Up:
Rocky Mountain’s team motto this year is “never give up.” These Lady Grizzlies will go through their share of ups and downs this season but Coach Roy doesn’t want his team to get discouraged, but to work hard, play hard, and most importantly never give up.

GAMES TO WATCH: Rocky Mountain and Eagle only play once this season. Don’t miss this always intense rivalry game on January 7, 2016, at Rocky Mountain High School.
