The Columbia Wildcats will be making the jump from the 4A Southern Idaho Conference to the 5A Southern Idaho Conference to start the 2014-15 season. Columbia will be part of pod B that includes Boise, Vallivue, Mountain View, Meridian, and Eagle High Schools. But that is not the only change the Wildcats will be greeted with this season.

Columbia also went with a coaching change in the offseason, and the Wildcats will be led by first year coach Whitney Honn. Coach Honn came from Hood River, Oregon where she coached JV Boys basketball.

The Wildcats will be led by Junior guard, Chloe Curry and Vallivue High School transfer, Sophomore guard, Tianna Williams. Last season, Columbia averaged 39 points per contest, with a third of those points coming from graduating senior, Rhianna Birch. Coach Honn will be looking to her two guards to help fill the scoring void left by Birch this season.

Columbia opened the 2013-14 season 5-3, but only won four of its last ten games finishing with a 9-13 record.

Coach Honn said, “I hope we can build a team this season that can play together, and I hope we can use the first part of the year to build some chemistry and be playing our best basketball when district playoffs come around. I am putting the focus on building a team that will work hard, work together, and commit to making the changes necessary for us to be competitive at the 5A level.”

The Lady Wildcats look to be in building mode to start the upcoming season as they adjust to a new coach, new roster, and a new conference.

GAME TO WATCH: Against cross-town rival Nampa, @ Columbia, Tuesday December 9th, 2014. They only play once this year due to the new 5A SIC pod system.
