4A Girls Quarter-Final Game Recaps
A look at all the games played at Timberline High School on Thursday
Published: 2/19/2016 9:01:40 AM

CENTURY 55, KUNA 41:  Defending state champion Century shook off a slow start, pulling away from the Kuna Kavemen in the second half for a 55-41 victory in the first game of the 4A state tournament at Timberline High School.

Katie Hiller and Rian Rawlings scored 13 points each for Century.  The Diamondbacks, as a team, connected on 29 of 36 free throws in the game, led by Rawlings, who connected on 10 of 13 from the charity stripe.  The Diamondbacks also limited Kuna's leading scorer, senior Alison Law, to seven field goal attempts and ten points.

Century pressured Kuna into 16 turnovers, leading to 16 Diamondback points, to keep the Kavemen at bay.

Century will face Sandpoint in a 4A semifinal matchup at 6:15, while Kuna will face Burley in the consolation bracket at 1:15.

SANDPOINT 47, BURLEY 30:  Grace Kirscher led all scorers with 27 points, including 15 in the third quarter alone, to help the Sandpoint Bulldogs reach the 4A semifinals with a 47-30 win over Burley on Thursday.

Both teams struggled for much of the game offensively, with just 23 combined points into the third quarter.  Things loosened up a big offensively from there, with the Bulldogs bridging the third and fourth quarters with a spurt to put the game out of reach.

Burley tried to scrap back into the game in the fourth quarter, getting as close as six points with just under five minutes remaining, but Sandpoint knocked down its free throws to secure a semifinal date on Friday with defending state champion Century at 6:15 at Timberline High School.

BISHOP KELLY 48, RIGBY 37:  Gabi Harrington scored a game-high 19 points, added nine rebounds and five steals, to help Bishop Kelly defeat the Rigby Trojans, 48-37, in a 4A quarterfinal game on Thursday.

The Knights were never completely able to shake the Trojans, who entered the game with a 9-12 record.  Jet Taylor had ten points and six rebounds for the upset-minded Rigby team but Bishop Kelly did just enough to avoid the upset.

Neither team shot the ball particularly well - Bishop Kelly was just 3 of 21 from the three-point line - but Rigby had eleven turnovers to Bishop Kelly's five, a key in helping the Knights come away with the win.

MINICO 51, CALDWELL 34:  The Cougars put a scare into Minico, but some hot shooting in the second half helped the Spartans avoid the upset.

Caldwell's Lissette Saenz beat the first-half buzzer to give the Cougars a two-point lead and the game remained tied, 26-26, halfway through the third quarter.  That's where Minico seemed to find its legs, outscoring Caldwell 25-8 the rest of the way.  A sequence of three consecutive Spartan three-pointers pushed the lead to 11 in the fourth quarter and the Cougars were unable to mount a comeback.

Caldwell's Kora Anderson-Bower was the game's only double-figure scorer with eleven points, but Minico had six players with at least six points.  Leading the way with nine was Tayla Sayer with Jillian Gilchrest adding eight.  Minico also gathered 22 offensive rebounds in the win.

Minico will face Bishop Kelly in a 4A semifinal Friday at 6:15 while Caldwell will take on Rigby in the consolation round at 3:00.
