1. Clay Johnson, North Gem
Johnson rushed for 288 yards and tied a school record with seven rushing touchdowns in Friday’s win over Camas County. Add in the two kickoffs he returned for scores, and you get nine total touchdowns – a single-game school record.
2. Cooper Miller, Wallace
Just another Friday night for the junior QB, throwing for 373 yards and six touchdowns and running for another 87 yards and another three scores to lead the Miners past Genesee.
3. Mateo Cruz, Clark Fork
The senior signal-caller tossed five touchdown passes, including the game-winner with less than a minute to play, and ran for a sixth score as Clark Fork evened its record at 1-1 on the season with a 44-38 win over Lewis County.

But What About …
Mackay’s Grayden Bruley ran for 273 yards and four scores in the Miners’ win over Hansen. Carey’s Madden Perkes had 200 yards of all-purpose yards and scored the winning touchdown in the closing seconds to score a dramatic win over Butte County. Kamiah’s Lawson Landmark ran for over 270 yards in a win over Lapwai. Zach Permann, Grant Clemens, Riggin Keetch. All had great performances in important wins. It can be very hard to narrow the huge list above down to just three, but that’s the challenge we’ve given ourselves. Our goal isn’t about selecting three kids who had good games. Our goal is to spotlight kids, programs, and towns that might not otherwise get spotlighted.
Win No. 1
A Thursday-night game that featured just 14 total points can sometimes slip by undetected in 8-man football, but it’s worth noting that it was the first-ever football win for the North Star Huskies. Junior QB Kyler Horning somehow escaped a world of pressure to throw a touchdown pass in the first half, and then the Huskies’ defense made several stops, including a fourth-down stop in the red zone, in the second half in its win over Wilder. Andrew Marron, Colin Comesky, and JJ Jones made big play after big play for the North Star defense as the Huskies enter the week in first place in the 2A Western Idaho Conference at 1-0 in WIC play.
