Bryce Hanson Update

Dietrich freshman Bryce Hansen suffered a significant injury during the Blue Devils' game on Friday against Richfield.  The neck injury has caused limited mobility, especially on his left side, according to information shared by the Dietrich School District via social media.  He has undergone surgery and will be in a neck brace for eight weeks, with rehabilitation to being soon.  The school plans to host a fundraiser to support the family at its upcoming home game against Hansen on October 3.  Those with the means and desire to support the family during this time are encouraged to contact the Dietrich School District.

Two Games, One Day

It's not uncommon to see a program play two (or four) quarters of JV football before the varsity game on the same day.  But the Logos Knights took that to another level on Friday.  Two games, in two locations, against two different opponents ... and two different types of football.  While the Logos varsity team was defeating 2A Whitepine level Prairie in an important 8-man league game in Cottonwood, the program's junior varsity team went on the road and played 3A Orofino in an 11-man game.  The Knights also won that contest, which counted as a varsity game for Orofino.  Head coach Nick Holloway said this is the second 11-man JV game this season (they also defeated the St. Maries JV), providing valuable experience as Logos will be moving up to the 11-man 3A classification next fall.

Back Home Again

Salmon River won six 1A Division 2 (now 1A) state titles on the football field between 2007 and 2016.  Charlie Shepherd, Sr., was the head coach for five of those teams (Brad Neuendorf skippered the first title in 2007), and his son, Charlie, Jr., was a key piece of the 2009 and 2012 teams.  On Friday, the younger Shepherd was on that field as a head coach - but this time as the opponent.  Shepherd is the first-year head coach at Notus High School.  He picked up his first win as the Pirates' head coach last week but was defeated by his alma mater on Friday, 38-15.  Salmon River is coached by another Savage alumnus, Ty Medley, who graduated from Salmon River in 2006.
