This past weekend the Gem State of Idaho was all business at the 2025 Folkstyle Nationals held at the Uni-Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa University. By way of illustration, Chris Owens and staff has made it a priority each season to bring Idaho’s elite together to compete against the best of the best in the country. Since 2021, Team Idaho has entered at least sixty plus wrestlers per year to these championships. Whether it’s the Folkstyle Nationals, Fargo, or National Duals, Team Idaho has proven they can compete with the top tier and has left no doubt that the Gem State is among the top small states in the country.

This year, Team Idaho assembled another large contingent and, in the end, brought home two individual National Champions and twenty-nine All-Americans overall in the 16U and Junior Divisions (Boys/Girls). On top of that, Team Idaho placed in the top five in the Junior boys and girl’s divisions and performed well in the 16U (No team scores were compiled in the 16U division).

In the Junior Division, Team Idaho produced six All-Americans with Post Fall’s Rider Sequine leading the charge by reaching the championship finals. What’s more, the 16U Division produced an individual National Champion in frosh standout Blake Nevils of Meridian in addition to producing a total of ten All-Americans overall.

The Idaho Girl’s Division continues to improve each year at the national level. This year, Lewiston’s Joely Slyter led the charge by winning the Junior Division at 115s in championship form. Overall, the Idaho girl’s contingent produced a combined thirteen All-Americans in the 16U/Junior Divisions.

To conclude, the future looks very bright for the Gem State in both the boys and girls divisions. The consolidated effort by Chris Owens, the Director of Operations, coaches, and volunteers statewide to bring together Idaho’s best is paying off in dividends with the overall performances in the last several years. I look forward to the future of wrestling in Idaho and to all Team Idaho wrestlers that put it on the line against the best of the best.
