The 2025 Idaho State Wrestling Championships in the Girls single class lived up to all my pre-tournament expectations and much more. It was definitely a barnburner of an event from start to finish. This year’s tournament crowned two 3x State Champions, six 2x State Champions and five additional first timers. Furthermore, three wrestlers earned a rare fourth state medal, eleven earned number three, and twenty more earning their second.

Without a doubt, the level of competition continues to increase each and every year and with the grass roots level gaining traction, I expect the Girls division to get even more competitive in the near future. In the team race, it was highly competitive from start to finish with Rocky Mountain bringing home its school’s first state team title.

This year’s event produced several wrestlers that earned their second and third respective state titles. Leading this strong group is All-Americans and 3x Champions Elise Twait of Meridian (152s) and Amie Hartman (Mountain Home, 235s), who recently signed to compete for Dickinson State University in the fall. Joining the 2x State Champions Club include All-Americans Olivia Bezdicek (Jerome, 126s), Keanna Conrad (Blackfoot, 132s), Roxy Sheen (Buhl, 145s), and Joely Slyter of Lewiston, who recently won the Junior Folkstyle Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa. Also earning number two is Salmon’s 3x Placer Raelynn O’Connor (100s) and 3x finalist Shauna Anderson of Thunder Ridge (185s). Earning their first state title include All-American Taylor Drake (West Side, 107s0, Alexxis Johnson (Lake City, 120s), Kylie Fowler (Middleton, 138s), and Rocky Mountains Gavin Brown at 165s.

Altogether, a combined thirty-four wrestlers earned between two to four medals this year (Several wrestlers were already mentioned above). Joining Joely Slyter and Amie Hartman in the 4x State Placers Club is All-American and two-time finalist Zoe Fries of Kuna (138s). Additionally, a total of eleven wrestlers earned their third respective medal. They include Lydia Townsend (Marsh Valley, 114s), Kasia Hanks (Burley, 126s), Haley McNeal (Potlatch, 152s), Brooklyn Anderson (Coeur d’ Alene, 165s), Emry Woods (Eagle, 185s), and All-Americans Kyler Scott (Century, 132s), Courtney Hunt (American Falls, 138s), and Josie Newby of Grace at 145s.

The pre-tournament discussion predicted that the team race would be a roller coaster ride from start to finish. This prediction lived up to its hype and much more. From the first whistle until the championship finals, District III powers Rocky Mountain and Eagle battled throughout with Rocky’s Gavin Brown sealing the team title with her finals’ victory over rival Ella Elordi (Eagle) by convincing decision of 6-0. Overall, Rocky Mountain produced one individual champion and six placers while Eagle placing runner-up had four individual placers. Rounding out the top five is Kuna, 2024 Champions Thunder Ridge, and Grace.

Taking a closer look at the Girls state results, I list all 3x Champions, 2x Champions, as well as All-Americans and multiple placers.
