Fruitland
What would a 3A state tournament be without the Fruitland Grizzlies? After winning their first 3A state title back in 2006, Fruitland has played in every state championship game since, finally winning their second title last year, defeating Snake River 42-14. They give new meaning to the phrase, “They don’t rebuild, they reload.”
This year I was forced to eat crow after consistently voting Weiser over Fruitland for several weeks in the media poll. In week eight, the Grizzlies traveled to Weiser and soundly whipped the Wolverines on their home field 36-12. I voted Fruitland 1st the next week, and every week after that, like everyone else.
Weiser
Two words define the Weiser Wolverines – De and Fense. In the first seven games of the season, their defense gave up only 30 points, with four of those games being total shut-outs. The entire season they have outscored their opponents 432-87. The only team to score more than 14 points on them was Fruitland in their only loss of the season, 36-12.
Last week in the quarter-finals, Weiser defeated a very good (7-3) Timberlake team, at Timberlake, 34-7. The Wolverine Express is firing on all cylinders heading in to this Saturday’s grudge match against conference foe Fruitland.
IdahoSports.com play-by-play guru, Gary Jones, like to pit mascot vs mascot during his game broadcasts. Unfortunately for Weiser, the imaginary result of a Grizzly versus Wolverine battle in the wild will be the same as the real battle on the field this Saturday, no matter how sharp Glenn says the Wolverine’s teeth might be.
Fruitland defeats Weiser 45-30
