Weiser High School athletic director Tyler Grant announced Laraine Harrison as the new head coach of the Weiser girls basketball team on May 3.
Previously the head coach at Emmett and Pocatello, Harrison returns home to Weiser to lead her third varsity basketball program, joining husband Tom, who is the head football coach for the Wolverines.
“We are excited to have Laraine take charge of our girls basketball program,” Grant said. “Having someone of her caliber and experience will be a wonderful addition to our athletic department. Her commitment to building well-rounded young women that succeed in the classroom, on the court, and as adults will be so beneficial for current and future student-athletes.”
Harrison was the head girls basketball coach at Pocatello from 2009 until 2014, leading the program to a pair of third place trophies at the state tournament. At Emmett, the Huskies went 22-6 in her first year in the 3A classification, followed by records of 7-17 and 7-18 in her final two seasons as the school moved up to the 4A ranks.
A graduate of Idaho State University, Harrison played for the Bengals from 2000-2004.
Longtime head coach Nick Reed led the Weiser program for 11 seasons, including a 9-15 record last year.
Weiser begins the upcoming season on November 16 against Emmett. The first home game for the Wolverines will take place on November 22 against the defending 4A runner-up Caldwell Cougars.
