2011 Interscholastic StarsStudent Recognition Scholarship Awards
Jonathon Riggers, Nezperce High School, Ruth Lewinski, McCall-Donnelly High School, Daniel Dahle, Fruitland High School, Kaitana Martinez, Wood River High School, and Joe Simpson, Boise High School were selected from a field eighty-two outstanding students who were nominated by their school principals. Other finalists were Micaela Adamson, Carey High School, Riley Stirm, Melba High School, Brock Bumgarner, Weiser High School, Esbeida Ramos, Skyview High School, and Tanner Mangum, Eagle High School.
Nominees for the scholarships are exemplary students who participate in IHSAA-sponsored sports and activities. Each application includes an essay, recommendations from school administrators, description of athletic and activity participation, and service to school and community.
Interscholastic Stars will receive a $1000 scholarship to the college of his/her choice, and will be recognized at the IHSAA Hall of Fame banquet in Boise on August 10. The United Dairymen of Idaho will also contribute $1000 to the recipients' schools and $500 to the finalists' schools.
Jonathon Riggers, son of Nathan and Christine Riggers, participates in football, basketball, and baseball at Nezperce High School. He is also active in band, student government, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America and Knowledge Bowl.
Ruth Lewinski, daughter of John and Lynn Lewinski, participates in soccer, cross country and track as well as band and drama at McCall-Donnelly High School. Other activities include student government, art club, HOSA and Quiz Bowl.
Daniel Dahle, son of Eric and Rashae' Dahle, participates in football, basketball and band at Fruitland High School, holding leadership positions in all of his activities. Daniel is also a member of Natural Helpers, prom committee and FFA.
Kaitana Martinez, daughter of Ron and Angie Martinez, participates in soccer, basketball, softball, track and band at Wood River High School. She is the president-elect for the National Honor Society as well as starting a new club at WRHS called 5B ATI promoting healthy decision making for teens at her school.
Johann Simpson, son of John and Connie Simpson, participates basketball, soccer and orchestra at Boise High School. He is also active in a variety of leadership groups including National Honor Society and Key Club.
