The Albertsons Big Deal of the Week is a new addition to IdahoSports.com in which student-athletes who excel in the classroom and competitively are selected on a weekly basis to be featured on the site. Each recipient of this weekly honor receives a $100 Albertsons gift card and is featured as a top story on IdahoSports.com.

Standout golfer Jake O'Neil from Fruitland High School is our selection this week. A state champion in both basketball and golf in 2018, O'Neil carries a 3.75 GPA in the classroom and has signed to play golf at Boise State University.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a funny guy who likes to laugh. I am super competitive and I love every sport.

Do you have a nickname? If so, how did you get it?
People call me “Bubba” because I grew up watching Motocross and my favorite rider was James “Bubba” Stewart.

What is your favorite sport to watch? Participate in?
I love to watch and participate equally in both golf and basketball.

As a student-athlete, which is harder - being a student, or being an athlete? Why?
I think being a student is much more difficult than being an athlete. I would much rather be out on the golf course all day rather than in calculus.

Overall GPA:
3.75

What is the best thing you have learned from playing sports in high school?
I have learned so much about how big of an impact an athlete can make on anyone. It is so much more than playing the game.

Favorite high school memory, so far?
Winning the basketball state championship and golf individual state championship in the same year in 2018.

Who is your favorite teacher? Why?
Russell Wright because he is engaged 100 percent of the time.

What kind of car gets you around town?
Volkswagen Jetta.

Cat person or dog person?
Dogs by far.

Favorite food?
PB&J’s.

You have an entire weekend with no plans. What do you do?
Play golf all day and basketball all night.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Inky Johnson. [He’s] the most inspirational person in the world.

What is something most people do not know about you?
I love Fortnite.

What celebrity would play you if they made a movie about your life?
James Franco.

What was the last song you listened to?
Little Bit by MattyBRaps.

What are your plans after high school (college, work, etc.)?
Signed to play golf and study kinesiology at Boise State University.

When you "grow up" what is your idea of the perfect job?
Doing something I love and not a lot of it.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?
“Stop worrying so much,” Thomas Sperbeck.
