The Big Deal of the Week (Victoria Ortega, Notus)
Published: 1/12/2022 1:52:12 PM

Name: Victoria M. Ortega
School: Notus
Grade: Senior
GPA: 3.55
Sports: Volleyball, and Basketball
Positions: Defensive Specialist, Point Guard
Other Hobbies: I participate in Academic Decathlon throughout the school year

Do you have a nickname? Is so, how did you get it?

Vicky is my most common nickname.  It was given to me by my family growing up.

What is the best thing you have learned from playing sports in high school?

Playing sports in high school has taught me how to adapt under the most unusual circumstances.  You must always be prepared for the unexpected.

What is your favorite high school memory, so far?

My favorite high school memory was traveling to a summer basketball tournament in Carey.  I got to spend a lot of time with my team as well as meet new people.

Who is your favorite teacher? And why?

Currently, my favorite teacher is Jon Connor.  He goes out of his way to make a connection with his students.  He also prioritizes the happiness of each one.

What is your favorite food?

Macaroni & Cheese and Spaghetti are by far my favorite dishes.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?

A very personal choice would be my aunt.  Although we have technically met, she passed just before my tenth birthday.  I would love to show her who I have become as well as how much everything has changed.

What is something most people do not know about you?

I like to draw and write.

Any thoughts on where you want to go to college?

Currently the plan is to attend Idaho State University.

When you "grow up", what is your idea of the perfect job?

My perfect job would not only provide happiness to me, but also many others around me, which is why the medical field is the place for me.

What is the best advice you have ever received and from who?

My mother always reminds me that tomorrow isn't promised so I can't live my life with regret.

Shout out: Feel free to give a personal shout out to anyone you want (family, friend, teacher, whomever.)

I want to thank my coaches, teammates, friends and family that helped me grow and become who I am today.
