Defending conference champion St. Maries lost all five starters from last year, leaving the door open for things to get interesting in the 2A Central Idaho Conference this time around.

The Lumberjacks are led by the inside-out combination of junior guard Jackson Pritchard and senior post Glover Buell.

Combined with a good group of newcomers, the team should still be expected to be solid despite all the seniors that have graduated.

For head coach Bryan Chase, he is most excited to keep the progress going in the right direction with what is another quality core of athletes.

“We are reloading with a strong JV team from last year (14-2 record). We have decent size and athleticism [and] an up-tempo style of play.”

New post Kevin Duffield stands at 6-foot-4 and having the 6-foot-3 Daniel Howard next to him will give St. Maries a couple of quality interior options.

Coy Sands, Kaden Hammond and Tyler Lohman should all receive plenty of playing time from the guard position as well.

“[We] always focus on defense and rebounding. Up-tempo and pressure are keys. Playing together as a team will determine our fate,” said Chase.

Grangeville went 11-12 last season and hopes to see a spike in the win column this season under head coach Kelcey Edwards.

The Bulldogs have an exciting trio of Trey Dreadfulwater, Booker Bush and Colby Kennedy, each of which has at least two years of high school remaining.

That young talent should keep the team in the thick of things for the next few years.

Orofino graduated senior star Bayley Noah and fellow core members Taran Burke and Isaac Glaze.

The Maniacs will be led by new head coach Justin Haag and 6-foot-8 junior post Brandon Chatfield.
