Boise High School was a young team last season. With a sophomore quarterback at the helm, the Braves struggled to put up points at times, scoring just three points on three separate occasions.

Quarterback William McMullen is now a junior and his go-to receivers, Ollie Munch and Ramon Booker, are seniors. In addition, at arguably the most important position, the left tackle, John Ojukwu is highly-touted senior receiving offers from Division I schools such as Boise State and Portland State.

Although head coach Bob Clark, now in his 13th season, lost 15 players to graduation, including Val Daltoso, who is now an Oregon Duck, a talented quarterback and a pair of wide receivers who now have some varsity experience under their belt should help minimize the losses.

The Braves will be looking to play the role of underdogs this season.

“These are a great group of kids,” Clark said. “We always stress playing fast and having fun.”

Defensively, the Braves will have a solid defensive line and possess athletic defensive backs, but what they have in size and speed, they lack for in depth. Avoiding injuries is a must for the Braves in 2016.

To compete against the 5A powers of the Southern Idaho Conference, the Braves cannot take a play off. Teams such as Mountain View and Capital, both on the schedule for 2016, are known for wearing down opponents late into football games, taking advantage of tired defenses through big plays.

The Braves will open against 4A Ridgevue on August 26th in Caldwell.
