Team Preview

In all of his 36 years of coaching, Dave Snodgrass (6th year in Nezperce) believes this could be his best all-around team that he has coached. Even better than his championship teams at other schools. Everywhere Snodgrass has coached, he has won at least one title. This could be that year in Nezperce.

The taste of losing the fourth-place game by 2 points left a bitter, bitter taste with the coaches and players.

It doesn’t take long, when watching the Indians play, to see the reason why they are so dangerous. Many will think coaching, discipline, depth, size, speed. Yes, you are correct with all of those, but those are all secondary reasons. If watching an Indian game this season, immediately after the opening tip, you will recognize the reasoning-junior guard Kourtne Carpenter. Not only is she an All-Whitepine player (could be the MVP this year), she has the potential to be a triple-double machine. Everything seems to run through and be directed by Carpenter. This is not by design by any means. She is smart, a team player with an IQ unseen at this level. She does it all-scoring, rebounding, defense, passing, dribbling. It wouldn’t be farfetched to seeing her dunk on a break-a-way. She is an unreal talent.

Throw in a teammate post with double-double potential in Maddie Stapleton, a young talent in guard Sidney Boyer (All-Team Whitepine), another sophomore post in Hannah Stapleton, and a young and athletic freshman in Caitlyn Cronce makes for a talented team.

The only worry of the coaching staff has is who will be the defensive stopper and stop the opposing star player. The Indians play such team defense that may not be necessary.

The positives heavily outweigh the question. Fans will see more fast break opportunities, reduction in turnovers, balanced scoring, great team play, quickness, discipline, and smarts.

“We are emphasizing the team concept, together,” comments Coach Snodgrass. “This year, every day, we look to find a way.”

And find a way they will do. The schedule shows rivalry games with Deary and Highland. Then, non-league matchups against quality teams-Salmon River, Genesee, and Grangeville.

Find a way, the Indians will. Look for them to be the favorites behind Carpenter and company and be a favorite come State time.
