Losing the leading scorer, the leading rebounder, the top 3-point shooter, the best defender, and the emotional leader sounds like the season would face a major uphill battle for first year coach Jeff Wilson. Not so fast.

Coach Wilson really likes his team and knows them well. He should, after all he spent the last four years as an assistant coach. Bayley Noah, Taran Burke, and Isaac Glaze (seniors) are ready to lead the Wilson-led Maniac crew into battle against the Central Idaho League-St. Maries and Grangeville.

“St. Maries is the clear favorite to win the league. To pull off an upset, we must shoot the ball extremely well from the outside and be able to handle defensive pressure,” comments Coach Wilson on his league opponents. “Our rivalry games with Grangeville should go down to the wire.”

What fans will see this season are athletic, quick players with the ability to shoot the ball from the outside. That is because attention will be drawn inside towards 6’8” sophomore Brandton Chatfield. The presence of Chattfield should allow the perimeter defense to be more aggressive knowing the size behind them. He will be allowing the Maniacs to match up more inside at the post.

Defensively, the Maniacs will be led by Burke and Glaze. But if they need a spark off the bench, look no further than Marc Taitano. He does more than just spark. He rebounds well too.

With a new head coach, look for the Maniacs to exploit their athleticism. Fans will see more pressing and pressure defense. But they must stay out of foul trouble. On the other side of the ball, handling pressure, as well as the ball handling the ball.

Coach Wilson is ready for plenty of battles this season. Let’s watch and see where the Maniacs go this season
