If you've ever driven north on I-15 into Montana, you may have stopped in the small town of Dubois. Not only is it the county seat in Clark County, but it may be one of the friendliest towns around.

It also has an up-and-coming football team at Clark County High School - one whose head coach has been on the job for a grand total of 10 days.

Greg Shenton takes over from Michael Locascio and has would could potentially be the Bobcats' best assembly of talent in recent memory. While not known as a prominent football program (spending time in the mid-2000's in the Montana 6-man league and having no football at all in 2004), Shenton is hoping that the Bobcats can take steps forward this season to establish the framework of success for years to come.

"We feel this year that we have good depth and that we will be able to win the district title and qualify for the state tournament," he said.

To some, those could be strong words for the coach of a program that has had its fair share of sports-related participation issues. However, with 21 kids turning out for the program this year, optimism is higher than ever in Dubois.

The Bobcats return all but one starter on both offense and defense and they have some firepower to work with. Seniors Treston Eddins, Connor Grover, and Jake Mickelson will look to lead the offense from the skill positions with fellow upperclassmen Luis Cano and Alberto Ruiz anchoring the line. Landon May and Fernando Espinoza will also see plenty of action on offense will hope to be contributors on defense as well.

The junior class features running backs Payton Shenton and Omar Martinez, who both suit up at linebacker as well. A large incoming sophomore class sees a good mixture of skill position and line players. Running backs Carter Eddings and Matthew Murdock along with wide receivers Kobe Korrell and Ty Parton hope to establish themselves as the future offensive playmakers, while Brayson Bramwell and Checque Gonzales will learn from their older teammates on controlling the line.

As it always is in 8-man football, health is a major factor when it comes to potential success on the field. Staying healthy is one of the keys to the season according to Shenton. The other one?

"Working together as a team," he said. "We have to do it, especially if we want to beat Rockland this year."

The Rockland Bulldogs were the champions of the Sawtooth East Division last season, and Clark County's goal is to take that crown away from them. They'll get their chance in front of their home fans on September 18th.

The Bobcats schedule features a road trip to Richfield before opening up their home schedule against 1A-DI Butte County on September 4th. After a bye week and the home date against Rockland, Clark County will play at Mackay on the 25th and then travel to Carey on October 2nd to take on the Panthers' JV squad. The Bobcats round out the season at North Gem on October 9th and at home against Watersprings of Idaho Falls on October 23rd.

With only seven games on the 2015 schedule, Clark County hopes to make the most of each chance to step on the field.

"Our theme this season is 'Hustle, Hit, and Never Quit'," Shenton said.

He hopes to help his players love the game of football and enjoy their time on the Bobcats squad. His players hope the same - all while winning the district title and qualifying for state.
