Team Preview

The Garden Valley girls basketball team is poised for better things in 2015-16.

The Wolverines return five players with good experience, led by junior forward Khanyisa Morgan, a second-team all-conference selection. Fellow junior Amaize Yearsley, a guard, is also back, as are seniors Angelica Olivos and Maicel Fuhirman. Sophomore forward Lydia Shultz, a varsity newcomer, and fellow soph Sophia Cadotta could contribute heavily as well.

Offensively the Wolverines move the ball pretty well and have quality shooting. That should help well but staying in control will be key. On the defensive side, speed and quickness will help, along with having a wealth of experience coming back. A couple of areas that will need some work are relative to what’s available on the roster: rebounding because the team lacks overall height, and defending with feet and avoiding fouls as the squad is not terribly deep.

Veteran coach Heather Kelly says this bunch is a good group of girls that gets along, is talented and works hard. Determination may combine with those to put Garden Valley in good stead as the season progresses.
