The Ririe Bulldogs won 23 games last season, advancing to the state championship for the second year in a row.

Unfortunately for Ririe, the squad has fallen just short each time in the title game, and now has to find a way to replace the productivity of exited seniors Sicilee Williams and Brooke Griffith, both First Team All-State talents a season ago.

Williams also took home All-Area Player of the Year and Co-Conference Player of the Year.

Fortunately for Head Coach Damien Smith, this younger version of the Bulldogs has plenty of talent to work with, led by the younger Williams sister, Haddi.

Just a junior, Haddi was a First Team All-Conference selection last year and will again be joined by Second Team All-Conference honoree Savanna Gamett to form a strong inside-outside combination.

Smith is realistic about the task ahead of his team though, as plenty of offensive production needs to be replaced.

“We lost our scoring guards,” he said. “That will need to be picked up by the whole team. We have to find a way to score the basketball. We lost a lot of our offensive fire power with our graduating seniors.”

After being one of the younger players last season, Haddi steps into more of a leadership role, although she should have no problem taking that on with the success already in her first two years.

There is plenty of excitement still surrounding the program as they look to break over the final hurdle and bring home a state title this season.

“We have a lot of young girls this year,” said Smith. “It will be exciting to coach this young team.”

Ririe begins the new campaign on Nov. 14 at home against Teton. The first conference battle will take place Dec. 7 at Salmon.
