Team Preview:

The Eagle Mustangs will have a different look this season after graduating six seniors, including leading scorer and All-SIC 2nd Team member, Riley Leavitt. The Mustangs finished with a 14-10 record under first year head coach Alex Wells, and Coach Wells hopes to better that this season with a solid group returning for the 2015-16 campaign. Key returners for Eagle come in the form of senior forward Talmage Clark and senior forward/SIC Honorable Mention, Zac Furgerson. Clark and Furgerson will be called upon to fill the void left by last year’s graduates.

Eagle will add three sophomores and a freshman to their roster in freshman guard Coleson Lake, sophomore guard, Trevor Tatko, sophomore forward, Parker Schwers, and sophomore forward and brother of Zac, Jake Furgerson. These boys will be called upon to contribute immediately this season and seasons to come.

Offense: Two seasons ago Eagle was strictly a three point shooting team but were a bit more balanced last season under Coach Wells. The Mustangs don’t have any true posts on their roster, but have lots of guards and forwards that can stretch the floor and have the ability to play down low. Look for Eagle to be even a bit more balanced this season and play more of an inside outside game.

Defense: Eagle will be one of the bigger teams at the three positions in the front court and that should help them to control the tempo of the game and the glass. The SIC has a bunch of quick guards and the Eagles will need to communicate and play solid help defense to keep these guards in front of them, and force them into tough shots.

Wrap-Up: This season the Mustangs have a solid mix of seniors and underclassman. Coach Wells has done a suburb job in his first year to bring balance to the team, and understands the value of developing younger talent. Eagle is off and running and has a solid team this year to compete with anyone in the Southern Idaho Conference

GAMES TO WATCH: A big rivalry game to always watch for is Eagle vs Rocky Mountain. They only play once this season, and it’s a home game for the Mustangs on January 22, 2016
