Kati Treinen is in her rookie season as Head Coach at The Ambrose School, after spending two years at Walla Walla Community College in Walla Walla, Washington as an assistant coach. In the opening weeks Treinen likes the speed of her team offensively, and feels they will have to use that to their advantage to be successful this season.

“The girls are very excited, and have put in a lot of time during the off season,” Treinen said. “That’s a coaches “This is a brand new start for us,” Treinen said. “With a week of practice under our belts I believe our offensive strength is our speed.”

The tandem of junior Emmy Troyer and sophomore Annie West return to form an experienced backcourt, and they will be expected to lead a team full of fresh faces, while adjusting to the loss of last season’s leading scorer Amelia Lehosi.

“Emily Troyer and Annie West will have a lot of responsibility playing the point guard position, but they have great teammates such as Kate Roberts, who is solid fundamentally on ends of the court,” Treinen said. “They’ll control a lot of our tempo offensively and defensively.”

Along with Roberts, Treinen expects five-foot-seven junior Maggie MachMahon to be an impact player this season.

“Maggie MacMahon has a good feel for the ball coming off of the rim, and we are hoping others will learn from her and attack the boards,” Treinen said.

Overall, Treinen will be looking to make her mark on her new program through teaching defensive accountability court awareness and stressing the importance of eliminating turnovers while trying to get the team to buy into the new system.

“My junior varsity coach, Jordan Tucker, and myself coach fundamentals and discipline, that can be frustrating for some athletes because it requires them to start from the beginning,” Treinen said. “However, I believe we will see improvement if they will buy in.”

Treinen realizes this is a brand new start for her, the assistances coaches, and the players, but she’s ready to get the season going.

“Since accepting the new position, I was immediately welcomed by the staff, parents, and athletes at Ambrose,” Treinen said. “I already feel at home and am excited to get the season kicked off and so are our players.
