Who do you have coming back this year?
Isabel Urena (Guard, Senior, 5’0); Reese Peters (Wing/Post, Senior, 5’8), Renee Peters (Wing/Post, Senior, 5’8), Brandi Huizar (Guard, Senior, 5’2), Kara Parker (Wing/Post, Senior, 5’8), Jenna Harris (Wing/Post, Junior, 5’8)

Any Returning Players with Honors?
Isabel Urena received all-conference honorable mention last year.

Any “Key Players” that you lost from last year?
Kendra Urena was our point guard. She has great court awareness, best decision maker, and extremely good defender. She will be missed! Becca Valles was a post for us. She provided us with good rebounding throughout the season.

As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
We are not centered around one player. We are hoping our defense leads to offense; we do not have that “one” scorer; we are a defensive “grind it out” type of team.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Post play, learning to be strong and to score it around the rim. Also attacking the basket to score it for guard, or get to the line. Attacking the basket creates good things.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
Quickness and hustle. That is our focus; we are a “team defense” type of a club. Focus is to win the “50/50” balls, help when someone gets beat, box out (we have to because we are small), and hopefully our defense leads to offensive buckets. Isabel Urena is quick and a good defender when she is not in foul trouble!

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Guards getting in foul trouble. Better post defense (not allowing the entry pass), and creating one and dones.

Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season?
“Together”

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
That it will not all be brand new; hopefully familiarity with the system will help!

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
All of them are important!

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
Our consistent defense and having someone step up and score the ball on offense.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school basketball?
My paycheck is the satisfaction of the athletes and seeing them not only grow in the game of basketball, but as people!

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
? I could not have a better group of motivated young women; their willingness to improve and work has been amazing. I would much rather have athletes with a willingness to get better than unmotivated kids. That’s what makes me so excited for this upcoming season.
