The Marsing Huskies are coming into the 2020 fall season looking to rebuild after a low-win season and a brand new head coach leading the charge.

First-year Head Coach Mike Nunnalee takes the reins for the Huskies and has already begun pouring his energy into getting the team ready for the fall season, despite the slow down due to COVID-19 from when he was first hired.

Nunnalee told the Idaho Press in July he dove into workouts and team meetings as soon as he was given the go-ahead -- and he hasn’t slowed down since.
But unlike many other high school programs, the Huskies are used to adjusting to new head coaches. Marsing has seen five new coaches in a span of five years, all with a collective record of 3-29, according to the Idaho Press.

The program’s single win of the 2019 season came in the season opener against Wendell, where the Huskies took down the Trojans 18-6.

While coming in with a blank slate at Marsing, Nunnalee also acquired a team with two All-2A Western Idaho Conference players -- second-team offensive lineman Nico Acosta and honorable mention linebacker Cody Floyd. Senior quarterback Kolton Scott and wide receiver/defensive back Austin Poole also return for the Huskies, according to the Idaho Press.

His plan to boost the team’s performance in the 2020 season doesn’t necessarily just focus on the nuts and bolts, but in getting, guys added to the roster, in the weight room and then on the field. So far, Nunnalee has added 35 athletes on this year’s roster, already significantly out-pacing the team’s 2019 roster, according to the Idaho Press.

“It never ends. If you want to turn around a program, it’s not just coaching and running plays,” Nunnalee told the Idaho Press. “You’ve got to have numbers, you got to have parents, you got to have the system. They’re buying into it, and as far as my efforts it’s a continual non-stop push.”
