Team Preview:

A lot of the times in high school football, the work a team puts in during the course of the offseason can have a major impact on the product fielded during the fall when the real season begins.

For Lighthouse Christian, the buy-in has been impressive since the campaign ended last fall, as this group of Lions gets ready to get back to big-time contenders in the 1AD2 ranks.

“I am excited to see a lot more players buying in over the summer and committing to getting stronger,” said head coach Cory Holloway.

Linemen Cooper Dastrup and Christian Tilley highlight the returners, with Brandon Houser looking like a guy who could receive the bulk of the snaps at quarterback this season.

Senior running back and linebacker Brandon Butler is an impressive two-way athlete, who should be one of the standouts on the roster as well.

Logan Stephens is a big-body 6-foot-3-inch receiver who gives the Lions a nice target to hit down the field.

“We have a lot of skill guys this year with decent speed so we should be able to have a more versatile game plan this year,” added Holloway.

That speed translates to defense as well according to the head man.

“Our team speed and strength should be better this year, so we should be able to cover the field and stop the run more effectively.”

Losing high-energy players who starred on each side of the ball in Connor Holloway and Justin Scarrow will make things tough, but with some of the other notable losses from other teams in the conference, Lighthouse Christian should be able to remain a threat for a playoff berth.

Looking at the roster for the Lions, one of the guys that should catch the average fans eye will be 6-foot-5-inch lineman Karsten Brandsma, who is entering his junior season. He’ll help give the Lions a nice physical presence on each side of the ball.

Lighthouse Christian starts the season at home against Hansen before three consecutive road games.
