Coach Nels Kludt will be taking over a program at Kamiah that held four teams scoreless and allowed two others to score a single touchdown. The Kubs posted 8 wins and fell in the Quarterfinals to eventual State Runner up, Valley Vikings. This first year coach will have several holes to fill as the Kubs graduated several talented players. One thing that is going to assist Coach Krudt is that many of his players this season had the opportunity to play a large amount of snaps a year ago because of the Kubs domination in so many games.

Not to say that Kamiah is rebuilding under this first year coach, but the 1A D1 Whitepine League is one of the toughest in the State. Coach Kludt puts it best with “the top three teams from last year lost a lot of starters. Somebody needs to get out fast and gain momentum that might carry them through the season and to the conference title.” He is looking for his team to take advantage early with the experience that they gained one year ago.

The Kubs are young and experienced. Coach Kludt is excited to see what they have in them after a successful last season. The plan is to get better every day, every week, and every game and put enough victories together and find themselves in the postseason once again.

Kamiah has many holes to fill and is looking for depth have the graduation of many, but most notable Lars Kludt, who was and All-State defensive end and offensive guard and was the Whitepine Defensive Player of the Year, Parker Whipple, not only the quarterback, but also an All-State defensive back, and Taylor McCallister, an All-State running back and linebacker.

Out of 16 offensive and defensive starting positions, the Kubs have only 1, yes 1, returning starter. Center Chris Olive is the only starter back. The leader of the offensive line will busy creating running lanes for running backs Bradley Knight and Tanner Christopherson, both of whom played many snaps with and learned from All-State player McCallister. Incoming quarterback Kaleb Oatman and receiver Luke Snyder built a nice passing chemistry last season together as backups. This year, look for this passing connection more often. They look to be the foundation of building consistency on the offensive side of the ball.

With one of the stingiest defenses a year ago, but with zero returning starters for this year, Coach Kludt is looking to pick up where they left off with the leadership of Knight, Oatman, and Christopherson assisting in the development process of the new players. In a Whitepine League that can put up points, defense will be needed.

The Kubs have the first two weeks of the season to put it together and build confidence in two non-league matchups, both at home. Then, to kick off their league schedule is the game that those along the Clearwater River have circled. Sept. 9 the Kubs travel a short distance to long-time rival, the Clearwater Valley Rams.

The second half of the schedule is made up of three teams, Prairie, at Lapwai, and Genesee, who qualified for the postseason in a four week span. The final three games will be against Whitepine teams who have a first year head coach as well. They may have lost quite a few players, but these Kubs could have what it takes to find their way back in the postseason.
