Bishop Kelly is the team to beat in the state of Idaho. The Knights have won the last three state championships in the 4A classification, bringing their total number of state titles up to seven, all of which have been won under 20th year head coach Tim Brennan.

Entering 2016, the Knights have one goal in mind, win another state championship by winning one play and one game at a time.

Although the Knights lost a significant amount of contributing players from last year’s squad, they still look lethal from the inside-out, but they will have to do it without significant contributors from last season, with the biggest losses coming on the offensive and defensive lines.

No more Harris Irwin, no more Caden Finkley and no more Marcus Galindo. Also lost to graduation is Ivan Torres, who was nothing short of a beast when it came to running the football. His partners in crime, Jon Baumgardner and Jake Jourgensen also walked across the graduation stage last spring. All three also played a huge role in BK’s dominating defense that helped the Knights win a state title.

Joe Sarabia, who played significant amounts of snaps on both sides of the football and Travis Allumbaugh will also be missed as receivers and shut-down defenders, Allumbaugh in the secondary and Sarabia as an outside linebacker who could cover and terrorize opposing quarterbacks.

Despite these losses, Brennan does not plan to rebuild this season, but rather reload, as another batch of young and talented football players are poised to carry on the winning tradition.

Bronson King will return for another season at quarterback. The All-Conference honorable mention will be joined by a host of returning players who received similar honors.

Ben Hruby, who was 2nd Team All-State as a punter and 2nd Team All-Conference as a linebacker, will return to lead the Knights on both special teams and defense, an area where Brennan hopes to see improvement.

Returning at center is Danny Cantrell, who will be counted on to help along the new offensive and defensive lines.

Players like, Max Murphy, Dillon McCurry, Jake Stone, Noah Meyers, Mac Johnson, Joe Senn and Gunner Kukay are the new players in the trenches that will look to Cantrell for leadership.

If the Knights have a weakness, it is the inexperience of the offensive and defensive lines.

According to Brennan, BK will be just as explosive on the outside as they were a season ago.

King will see his favorite target in Vince Sengelmann return, and despite the losses of Torres, Jorgensen and Baumgardener, will still have an experienced running back in Luke Burley.

In the secondary, Rex Irby will return off his 2nd Team All-SIC honors last season and will lead the Knights shut down secondary to another successful season.

BK has not gone away and you can expect them to contend for another state title in 2016.
