The 3A Consolation champions from last season will no longer be a part of the 3A classification and will be without their have their best player for the majority of the season. Emmett has moved up to 4A and will be without All-State guard Lillie Smith, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Second-year head coach Laraine Harrison led the Huskies to a 22-win season last year behind All-State junior guard and SRV conference MVP Smith and Jessica Lyter, who was the senior and vocal leader for the Huskies last season.

Smith averaged 18.8 point per-game while Lyter averaged seven.
Madi jo Taylor takes over at point guard and will be tasked with filling the shoes that Smith has left on the floor. Taylor has been sidelined with a concussion but should be ready by the time conference play rolls around.

“We have struggled handling pressure,” Harrison said. “Our goal is to get our guard area more comfortable taking on the ball handling role.”

The Huskies will have to rely on other 3A All-Conference selections from last season to see success in the 4A.

“We have to come ready to fight every game and limit our turnovers,” Harrison said. “Regardless of what is happening offensively, we know how much effort we can be putting forth defensively.”

The Huskies return Morgan Mitchell and Aly Kaiser, from last year’s squad, both of which were All-Conference Second-Team selections, Mitchell in the post and Kaiser, the do-it-all post in and outside shooter who can light it up from three-point-land and play scrappy on the boards.

Mitchell averaged eight points and seven rebounds per-game as both her and Kaiser both enter their senior season.

“Aly Kaiser is a work horse underneath but also plays out on the perimeter,” Harrison said. “Our strength also needs to be in our fast break opportunities. We want to transition down the floor, hoping for easy opportunities.”

New comer Lexi Childs, a 5’10 forward who plays aggressive underneath will help the Huskies play bigger both on the glass and in the scoring department.

“She has been doing a good job rebounding,” Harrison said. “One of our main scorers after three games.”

With a solid post, the Huskies will have to find somebody who can make up the lost 18 points from Smith.

Senior guards like Taylor and Dani Marston, who is a defensive specialist, will help the Huskies pressure defense. Mitchell averaged two blocks per-game last season.

“We like to use pressure defense generally,” Harrison said. “Morgan Mitchell does a good job underneath on drives. We need to get more consistent on getting out on open shooters when we are in our zone defenses. We like to mix things up.”

Although the Huskies are now a 4A team, their goal have not changed.

“We take one game at a time,” Harrison said. “But obviously the goal is to be in the state tournament when February rolls around, and take home hardware.”
