After a football season that saw American Falls head in the right direction, showing continuous progression, the boys basketball program looks for much of the same with new Head Coach Chris Fehringer.

He will have his work cut out for him following a difficult campaign last year that saw the Beavers go just 1-17 on the year.

Expect the Beavers to be an up-tempo team on both sides of the floor, generating open court opportunities with an aggressive defense.

That approach should help improve an offense which struggled to put points on the board, never eclipsing 56 points in a game.

A bulk of the roster is back this year, including guards Tyler Beck and Kodee Vining, with Bridger Bammert down low and a strong defensive player in Keenan Ortiz.

"Keenan Ortiz has great quickness and determination," said Fehringer.

Forward Brandon Long is a newcomer that the head coach expects to see plenty of time on the floor in a key role.

"We have several players that can score. "[We've got to] play a more team oriented game," added Fehringer.

He says the x-factor to a successful season this year for the Beavers will be team confidence, something that has to be built early in the non-conference slate before stepping into a tough 3A Southeast Idaho Conference featuring Marsh Valley and Snake River.

There are reasons for optimism though for American Falls.

"Everyone has something to offer to make our season successful," said Fehringer.

While it would be hard to expect the Beavers to challenge Snake River and Marsh Valley at the top of the conference, the group should become more competitive on a nightly basis this year, something that will be seen as a win in what is a rebuilding effort.

The season gets underway on December 1 at West Jefferson.
