The Boise Braves return six starters from last year’s state runner-up squad, and will start the 2015-16 season as one of the favorites to win the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. The Braves should battle with conference foes Centennial and Mountain View for the top spot. Boise will be without team captain from last year, Lydia Miles, and shooter, Megan Lee, but will return many of its keys pieces from last season.

Boise will start the season with a plethora of playmakers, starting with senior post, SIC first team selection, Isabelle Hadden and junior forward, SIC first team seletion, Mandy Simpson, both were key pieces in leading the Braves to runner up finishes at state and in the conference. Joining Hadden and Simpson are junior point guard, Audrey Dingel, senior post, Laura Irish, senior guard, Kirsten Robinson, and senior guard, SIC honorable mention member, Hanna Orton. Orton can really score and will be one of the many Braves that have the ability to score double digits on a nightly basis.

The Lady Braves will be coached again this season by 11th year head coach Kim Brydges. Over the years Coach Brydges has prided herself and her teams by playing team basketball, and she hopes her team can embrace and sacrifice for one another to take the next step. Boise will be one of the bigger teams in terms of size in the conference, and will use their size to get east baskets. One area of improvement they want to make this season is to play a little faster and get out in transition.

Boise will have good length in the backcourt again this season, and that should allow their guards the ability to apply pressure out on the perimeter to clog up passing lanes and to make it difficult for guards to make routine plays. To take the next step towards a championship, Coach Brydges wants her team to sacrifice for each other and play defense on “HELP” concepts when things start to break down. “We have some great guards in our conference and our rotations/”help” defense will need to be solid on a nightly basis.”

Boise’s motto this season is “WE over me.” This goes back to their team philosophy of focusing on team successes over individual ones. They key to the season, like many other teams in the conference, is to stay healthy. “We need to be focused on continuous improvement throughout the season, and improving our weaknesses and refining our strengths. Our goal is to come together as a team this season and as always we need to be playing our best basketball in February.” – Kim Brydges
