Taking over at a school with plenty of basketball history, new Head Coach Tyrell Neal looks to turn Malad back into a 2A power.

In his first season, Neal will not have the benefit of working with much experience, as just one player returns from the team last season.

Five seniors graduated from the team last year, leaving a void for a squad that went 7-15. As a result, the Dragons will rely on plenty of youth to find success in the new campaign.

"Hayden Green is a big offensive threat from the 3-point line," said Neal. "Our focus will be to set a quick offense which allows us to run, as we will be small. Our tallest player is a freshman."

With the fast-paced offense it will be key to avoid turnovers to allow the opposition to get out and run in the open court as well.

"Fans can expect to see a faster paced game that moves us up and down the court quickly," said Neal. "The fans can expect a lot of energy from the players. They are excited."

Discipline on offense and defense was listed by Neal as areas needing improvement. Offensively that involves taking the best shot and defensively focusing on getting a hand on the ball and disrupting the offense.

Ammon Bingham and DJ Evans will be the primary down-low presences for the Dragons, as the team looks to be able to improve on the boards this season. Gage Cherry will handle the point guard duties, attempting to force turnovers on the defensive end in an attempt to allow the Dragons to run as much as Neal hopes they will be able to.
