Vallivue is coming off a disappointing 3-17 season, a season where it left the Falcons with a 1-16 record in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. Entering the 2014-15 season, Vallivue will be without two-year captain and first team all-conference member, Brandon Navarro. Navarro was the leading scorer for the Falcons last season, but Vallivue introduces eight new faces that bring height, scoring, and talent. Areas where Vallivue needed help with last year.

Returning for the Falcons will be a quartet of upperclassman in senior guard, Bryce Schroder, senior post, Jake Cornforth, junior guard, Carlos Lopez, and junior guard Braden Riley. Schroder was the second leading scorer for Vallivue last season, and fifth-year head coach Scott Moore says he is one of the hardest working and goal-oriented boys he has ever had the pleasure of being around.

The past few seasons Vallivue has been one of the most under-sized teams in the conference and likes to run and push the tempo on offense. “As an under-sized program, we have to force teams to play a fast style, because it suits our personnel better,” said Coach Moore.

“With our incoming and returning talent this season we hope to score and rebound the ball on a more consistent level this season, something we have struggled with in years past” Cornforth and Schroder both have a few years of 5A Varsity experience and should have a bigger impact offensively for the Falcons this season.

Defensively, the Falcon’s allowed the most points per game in the conference last season at 67.4, something they will need to improve upon if they want to be competitive in a tough 5A SI conference. Headed into this season, Vallivue should be able to match up better against their opponents with their added size and athleticism, but the question remains if these Falcons can work together and communicate to keep their opponents in check defensively this season.

“Our team this season brings a tremendous work ethic and intensity that matches our size and athleticism. If we can gel together as team, the guys will have a great opportunity to find success this year.”

That is something Coach Moore and his assistants have worked on in the offseason and hopes his team can work together to have a successful 2014-15 campaign.

GAMES TO WATCH: Vallivue School District extends into both Caldwell and Nampa city limits and with Nampa and Columbia making the jump from 4A to 5A they finally have an opportunity to play more schools closer to their proximity.

-Vallivue vs. Columbia (Jan 10th)
-Vallivue vs. Nampa (Jan. 24th)
