Who do you have coming back this year?
Seniors: Josh Grover 6-0, Dylan Doan, 6-1, Riley Langdan, 6-0, Henry Fox 6-3 Sophomore: Forrest Smith, 5-10

Do you have any new incoming “impact” players?
Larry Sanger, 5-11 JR, Adam Salinas 6-0
As a team, what are your offensive strengths?
Offensive strengths will be disciplined offense, which maximizes our ability to get high quality shots. We are not very big, nor shoot the ball real well, so we will focus on ball control and being very efficient.

Offensive areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Our program’s ability to shoot the ball and be better converting in transition.

As a team, what are your defensive strengths?
Our strength will be toughness and making teams really have to grind it out to score. That is the focus of this years’ defensive scheme. We are not a real quick pressing type team, nor will this be part of what we do defensively.

Defensive Areas you hope to improve on over last year:
Stopping dribble penetration, being much better than CHS has been at transition defense. We are making a real emphasis this season on not giving up easy baskets or getting beat to the baseline.

Does your team have a motto/theme for the upcoming season?
Hard Work Beats Talent…When Talent Doesn’t Work Hard.

What are you most excited about in regards to this year’s team?
I am excited to build/mold a program of my own, as this is my first opportunity to run my own program. I want us to put a product on the floor the community and school can be proud of. We have a nice group of guys this year who really want to see us turn the corner and be competitive night in and night out. I am excited to get our kids in the program hungry to become better at the game, to enjoy it, and be committed to getting Caldwell High back on the winning track.

For the fans, what is the must-see game of the year on your schedule?
Probably our season opener at Vallivue on November 30th. The first test so to speak of this new look program, and hopefully we will have turned the corner from last season and can be real competitive.

What is the ‘X-Factor’ to having success this season as a team?
Commitment. How much will our guys buy into the system and have a belief in each other. We have a real good core of young players in our freshman and sophomore classes. I am hoping our returning seniors can be the leaders to get the CHS basketball program back to some success and be the catalyst for what I hope to be years of success.

If you could change one rule in high school basketball, what would it be?
I would add a “5th quarter” This would allow me the option to play a multitude of guys more quarters a night, and be able to develop kids, and get them more playing time. I could then take a part time varsity guy and get him some more minutes on JV and vice versa. We had a 6 quarter rule last year in Arizona and it was great, really got to see some kids develop well and it breeds great competition on your squad.

Besides the pay, the fame and the glory, why do you coach high school basketball?
I love working with kids, I care for their well being and want them to be successful in life. There isn’t a better avenue for learning life’s lessons than through high school sports, especially basketball.

What makes your school the best place to coach for?
Caldwell took a chance and is giving me the opportunity to run my own program for the first time. I think we have an outstanding administration, very supportive faculty, a great facility and kids who are hungry to be successful. We do compete in the best 4A conference in the state so that does pose a big challenge, but so far everyone at CHS has been very supportive and wants the school to do well in all activities.
