How did I do?
So tell me...how did I do on my votes this week? Did I miss something obvious? Go ahead. I can take it.

Blackfoot hasn't played yet
I guess you foresee that Blackfoot is going to take care of business; that's why you got them 1-0 two days before their first game right? I think they are where they ought to be. I don't think Madison will even score against their D on Friday.

Century
You ranked Century ahead of Pocatello, do you research the teams or draw teams of a hat. After the Indians shutout the Diamondbacks, just like last year, and win state, I hope you will have Poky ahead of Century in your final rankings.

Century
Century won their first game, Poky did not. Pocatello might be a better team but the fact is Century is 1-0 and Pocatello is 0-1. Once Blackfoot beats Madison they should be ranked #2.

dream on
Poky played their game against a quality 5A team and played tight. Century beat the worst 4A team in the state. Their not taking polls of who has the best record, its who is the better team. Poky is way better than Century and until someone stops Hillcrest and Jerome, i dont know how you rank anyone else ahead of them.

Not alone
I obviously wasn't the only one who voted who didn't think Poky deserved to be first. None of the media guys, including those from east Idaho, voted Poky first. They didn't even make it into the top five. Usually after the first 2 or 3 games everyone can get a feel for what a team is going to do. Until then...itis a crap-shoot.

Blackfoot ranked number 2 if they defeat Madison
Mammal...no way can you justify placing Blackfoot at number 2 if they beat Madison. Jerome just man-handled Mountain Home, a team far tougher than Madison, last week. When it comes right down to it, the polls don't mean squat. It's something nice for the fans. The coaches don't care about them at all. They probably can use them to motivate their teams, saying that no one respects them and yada yada. I agree that Hillcrest and Jerome should stay one and two until they're knocked off. I see now, too, that you removed the 1-0 from Blackfoot's entry on the poll above--you probably were right, but all the same, it's good to be sure.

how can you rank teams above others if you havent seen them play or had a score from their game. teams who havent played shouldnt be ranked higher than those that have.

Blackfoot Record
Announcerman: The team records are turned in by the media guys when we turn in our votes. Someone accidentally submitted Blackfoot with a 1-0 record. I got an email about the mistake shortly after the final polls were emailed back to everyone. I changed it then.

Paul--I understand. You guys do such an awesome job of putting this all together! Thanks!

Kootenai
Just watched Kootenai pull out a tough one against a good Lakeside team. They have the ability to go the distance, although if Carey is back at full force they will be tough to knock off.

Paul, Paul, Paul..... 2A voting
Paul, I can't believe you didn't even vote Declo in your top 5 last week. What's up? After losing the championship game last year by one point in overtime, and only losing a few senior starters, Declo is back with a vengance and is working hard to get back to the title game again this year. The scary thing is that Declo is a much better team this year than they were last year. You may want to ask Aberdeen's coaches where they would rank Declo after last night's game. Paul hurry up and get on the Declo bandwagon now before it is full! One more thing.... when preparing your pre-season and early season rankings, the best predictor of how well a team will do is not how they did last year, but how they did two years ago as a JV team. Declo's JV was undefeated two years ago. Go ahead and vote them #1 this week and you'll look like a genius. ;-)

Um...ya, about that....
As soon as the polls came back after we all voted I realized I left Declo out. It was too late at that point, so I was hoping no one would notice and I could correct it this week. That or I was hoping Aberdeen would absolutely crush them making me look like a genius. :-) Don't worry...Declo will be getting a vote from me this week.

2A Voting
Thanks Paul. I was just giving you a hard time. You are not alone in overlooking Declo early this year, but I think with a few weeks worth of games, others will take notice. Hopefully the Hornets can go all the way this year and come up with the one point they fell short of last year. Thanks for your great work on Idaho Sports. We love it!
