Team Preview:
Written By: Sven Alskog

Castleford made some progress during Brian Lowry’s first year on the sideline, with the Wolves winning three games and earning a spot in a Kansas City tiebreaker to decide the final playoff team out of the 1AD2 Sawtooth Conference.

That spot would go on to be earned by the Murtaugh Red Devils, however quality experience was gained by the team that should help moving forward in the new season.

The Wolves will have to do battle without All-Conference linemen Adrian DeKruyf and Keegan Myers, a duo which packed a punch up front and added some physicality that opponents had to prepare for on a weekly basis.

Second Team All-Conference tight end/safety Carter Schilder is back however to lead the way for Castleford. Schilder has the ability to fly to the ball from the safety spot and make some big plays on offense possible through the air when the Wolves have the ball themselves.

In three wins last season, Castleford put up 58, 44 and 46 points. In their losses, the team was held to 20 points or less each time.

On the other side of the ball, it will be paramount to show improvement after allowing over 35 points to each opponent outside of Richfield. With players having some more experience under their belt returning, that should be possible for the group to achieve.

After coming so close to securing a playoff berth in 2017, Castleford has its sights set on breaking into the field this time around.

The journey to get there begins at home in week one against defending 1AD2 State Champion Carey and returning 1AD2 Player of the Year Porter Mecham. The Wolves then head to Hagerman in week two to take on the Pirates in a game that will be broadcast live and free on IdahoSports.com.
