After merging forces with Camas County in 2016, Richfield looks to have a team of its own this season to take on the Sawtooth West Conference.

Some of the key talents that played as Mushers a year ago will be excited to wear the Tiger colors this time around, including All-Conference running back and linebacker Justin Wood and All-Conference offensive lineman Nash Rodriguez.

That duo will be joined by sophomore quarterback and linebacker Austin Hukill, who could be a major difference maker in determining the success of this team.

Coach Buck Hendren likes what he sees offensively.

"Strong running game, skilled backs, strong offensive line."

Those three things could help the Tigers to some victories this season, although Hendren notes improvement is needed in the passing game.

Defensively Richfield welcomes in a new defensive coordinator with some different schematic ideas to mix things up a little bit.

Last season Hendren was an assistant at Camas County as a result of the co-op, so you better bet he is excited to get the chance to be the head man again this year.

It's not difficult to figure out what the most exciting thing is about the new campaign.

"Having a team back in Richfield," said Hendren.

To be competitive in conference play some youthful talent will need to mature quickly. That will be an x-factor in how many wins the Tigers can pull off.

Richfield is not the only school splitting from a co-op this season, as Hansen and Murtaugh will each have their own teams as well in 2017. An early season matchup on September 1 at Castleford should give a good indication of where the Tigers are at as a team.

All things considered though, the faithful in the community, on the roster and throughout the coaching staff are just excited to be back to their own team this season to challenge conference foes.
