Team Preview

After falling by 3 points in a State play-in game and finishing second in their conference behind Lake City, Coach Marc Allert, who has transformed the Post Falls Trojan program in five season, looks to compete for the 5A conference title this season.

To do so, the Trojans must contend with defending conference champs, the Lake City Timberwolves. It won’t hurt the Trojans at all knowing that they have the 2 time All-League Player of the Year in post Melody Kempton and a First Team All- League selection in Bayley Brennan. The negative marks against the Trojans is that they don’t have a senior on the roster and lost Mallory Smith, a post player to a knee injury.

Coach Allert would love to have his team contain senior leadership, but it isn’t worried. This season’s team has more experience and welcome Freshmen twins Tyler and Jacksen McCliment-Call to the rotation.

A major upgrade this season and releasing some pressure for the two-time League Player of the Year and Gonzaga commit is that they will be more guard oriented, as well as having more depth and more shooting.

“We will be pretty athletic, more guard oriented, and be able to pressure teams full court trying to cause more turnovers to assist in initiating our offense,” states Coach Allert. “But, in order, to get to that point, we must WIN-win at everything we do: every drill in practice, every possession, every warm up. Everything.”

It is important for this club to stay healthy and get balanced contributions from every member in the rotation. Being balance will help in the battles against Lake City, a big team that wants the ball inside against his small and quick team looking to speed up the game.

This matchup should be a good one each time they face each other. But Post Falls must not overlook the Lewiston Bengals to the south. This should be an exciting season for the Trojans and the Inland Empire League.
